Shocking new evidence reveals extent of Australia’s wildlife crisis

The government should hang its head in shame on Threatened Species Day today, say The Greens. Dozens of expert submissions to the Senate Inquiry into Animal Extinction have outlined the staggering numbers of animals and birds hurtling towards extinction and how the government is culpable.

“The evidence received by our inquiry so far shows that creature after creature from Leadbeater’s Possums to Black-Throated Finches are only just hanging in there, their lives on the brink,” said Greens Senator Janet Rice, Chair of the Inquiry.

State of Environment ain’t good, Government complicit

The 2017 State of the Environment report shows the federal government is putting the interests of donors and big polluters ahead of the public good and responsible environmental protection, say the Australian Greens.

“The Minister claims there are ‘bright spots’, but this report shows the dark stain of Government mismanagement of our environment,” said Australian Greens acting environment spokesperson Senator Janet Rice.

Government must stop saddling up with the racing industry and protect the Hooded Plover

Greens Senator for Victoria Janet Rice has joined community groups to blockade race horse training on the breeding ground of vulnerable Hooded Plover on Belfast Coastal Reserve.

“It’s unacceptable to see the commercial interests of a few cowboys in the horse training industry take over these pristine Victorian beaches, and trump the survival of the Hooded Plover,” said Senator Rice.
