Contamination scandal demands urgent federal and state cooperation, say Greens

The state and federal governments must offer assistance to residents and workers impacted by the growing number of sites in Victoria affected by elevated levels of per- and poly-fluoroalkyl chemicals (PFAS), say the Greens.

“In the wake of revelations that at least 16 Victorian sites may be affected by PFAS contamination, the Australian government must immediately ratify the United Nations’ Stockholm Convention agreement to ban PFOS chemicals,” said Senator Janet Rice, Australian Greens senator for Victoria.

Government and Labor team up to sell out the Murray River and Victorian river communities

“The government and Labor teaming up to cut 605 billion litres of water from the environment, sells out the Murray River and Victorian river communities,” says Victorian Greens Senator Janet Rice.

The Greens moved yesterday to disallow the regulation that will see 605 billion litres cut from environmental flows. Labor joined with the Government to allow these cuts to go ahead.

Greens visit Swan Hill to discuss the Murray Darling Basin crisis with farmers and local community

Australian Greens senator Janet Rice and Victorian Greens candidate for Northern Victoria, Nicole Rowan, this week visited Swan Hill to discuss Murray River health and the Murray Darling Basin Plan with local farmers, indigenous people and community members.

The Greens are concerned that the federal government’s plan to rip 605 gigalitres from the southern MDB environmental flows will put even more pressure on the river and the communities that rely on it.
