The Greens will call for a senate inquiry into destructive native forest logging and deforestation, the failed laws that allow it to happen in Australia, and how to ensure a sustainable future for our forests and the communities that rely on them.
The Greens have slammed an industry call to allow logging in Victoria’s national parks and water catchments, and say the state and Commonwealth governments need to commit to scrap existing logging laws, with two of Victoria’s five logging agreements set to expire tomorrow and discussed by Victorian Cabinet this morning.
The Greens have today given notice of their intention to introduce a bill to repeal the Regional Forest Agreements Act, ahead of the imminent expiry of the 20-year Regional Forest Agreements (RFAs), starting with the Tasmanian RFA which is due to expire this year.
The Greens want to scrap these logging laws, which allow for the destruction of our native forests and which are preventing us from moving our wood products industries to sustainably managed plantation sources.
